Roads Scholar #15: Safety for Public Works First Responders
					
Disaster response and recovery operations present a wide range of unique and unpredictable safety hazards—especially for Public Works employees who are often on the front lines. This course equips participants with the knowledge and skills needed to recognize, assess, and respond to these hazards to help protect themselves, their coworkers, and the public during chaotic and high-stress situations.
	
	In addition to worksite safety, the course also emphasizes personal preparedness, helping employees plan ahead for the safety of their families during emergencies. Participants will gain an understanding of the fundamentals of Employee Emergency Planning and the Incident Command System (ICS) to ensure a coordinated and effective response.
					
  - Developing and understanding Emergency Response Plans
 
  - Preparing families and the public for disaster situations
 
  - Emotional responses and stress management during emergencies
 
  - Public Works roles and responsibilities in disaster response
 
  - Identifying on-site hazards and health risks
 
  - Applying safe operating principles in disaster zones
 
  - Selecting and using appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
 
					This course is essential for Public Works personnel who may be called upon to respond during or after natural disasters, infrastructure failures, or other emergency events.
